Fellow Caucus of Color members and friends -
The Young Democrats of America (YDA) is happy to announce our Winter Conference will be held in Washington, DC on February 2-4, at the same time and in the same hotel as the next Democratic National Committee (DNC) meeting. YDA will also kick off our 75th year celebration with our Founder’s Day event on Friday night. During the Winter National Conference, YDA will hold regular business meetings, hear from amazing keynote speakers and Party leaders and learn from experienced trainers.
This will be an action-packed meeting, as it is being held in conjunction with the Winter DNC meeting. DNC meeting credentials will be given out at the DNC registration area, on Thursday and Friday (Feb 1-2) from 10am-2pm only. When you sign up for the YDA meeting, your name is also given to the DNC for a guest credential. This will allow you to attend DNC sessions. To get the guest pass, however, you MUST be registered for the YDA meeting.
The website for the Young Democrats of America meeting in Washington DC Feb 2-4 has gone live!!

Please use this website to register for the meeting if you are planning to go. The YDA meeting alone costs $25 to register.
There is also a major fundraising event called the YDA Founders Day celebration. This event usually attracts many members of Congress and the US Senate, national Democratic Party leaders, national news media and the like, and I'm sure that many DNC members will attend since they will be in town for their meeting.
The cost of a Founder's Day ticket is $75. If you decide to go to Founders Day, your cost for the YDA meeting is included.
So, for $75 you can go to Founders Day, the DNC meeting, and the YDA meeting. For $25, you can attend just the DNC meeting and the YDA meeting.
For lodging, YDA has latched onto the DNC rate for the Washington Hilton where Reagan was shot in 1981. The rate is $179/night PLUS tax, which brings it close to $200/night. YDA realizes this is very expensive for most of us, even when you have 4 people to a room. The first week of January, they promise to provide cheaper alternatives.For those of you who will fly into DC, we would recommend (Reagan) Internation Airport, since it is on the Metro line, and will be much cheaper to get into DC itself than Dulles, which is in the Virginia suburbs.If you decide to attend this meeting, please let us know when you have registered. We light to keep track of the NYers who go, just for coordination purposes. In our reality, people from diverse races, nationalities and backgrounds come together to enjoy important cinematic works of creativity, intellectual expansion, identity, and equality. This is the element of commonality that weaves through this annual event of images from the African Diaspora.Today more than at any other time there are more films by black directors, more films on the black experience and more films with featured black actors enjoyed by all audiences. Notwithstanding, the international Black communities, whether in Europe, Latin America or Africa, continue to play a disproportionately marginal role in the art of cinema. Further, many creative and visionary films lay languid, collecting dust without the light of a screening owing to the lack of distribution outlets that showcase the films of our experience. In a world where boys are still made fun of for wanting to jump double-dutch and girls are still kicked off the basketball courts because they might "break a nail" while playing, Girls for Gender Equity is proud to organize the first New York City Festival for Gender Equality on August 27th 11am – 4pm. Open to all New Yorkers, it will be held at Von King Park in Brooklyn, NY and feature entertainment by musicians, spoken word artists, and theater performers; workshops and other fun activities for children and adults; free food and giveaways; and appearances from local politicians. Over 50 community organizations will participate including Brooklyn Children's Museum, Forest Hills Community House, Global Action Project, Loisaida, New York Police Department, Planned Parenthood, Schomburg Center, Street Harassment Project, and Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls.The Gender Equality Festival is a free public event for education, networking, resource sharing, community interaction, arts and recreation. Workshops on a wide variety of topics – responding to street harassment, media literacy, HIV/AIDS, communicating with your child, youth leadership, yoga, health care access, democratic education and more – will be offered throughout the day to children and adults. The Grand Street Campus girls' soccer team will lead a mother-daughter soccer clinic, where girls and their sisters, mothers, cousins, friends, aunts and grandmothers are all invited to learn basic skills and then show them off in a short game. The goal will be on focusing, listening, impulses, character and playing the scene. We will start with a sensory warm-up that will awaken your impulses. Acknowledging these impulses can enhance your work. Then we will lead the group through exercises and scene work so that you can apply these impulses in your work. Find confidence and freedom to explore. $75/$65 if paid by July 19th

Instructors:
Bryan Radtke started his career at Second City. Since then he has acted in many plays, commercials, films and industrials. He has cast and directed a number of projects in the NYC area including plays, short films and sketch comedy. His students have booked national commercials (MasterCard, American Express, MTV, Kmart, Target, Kodak, Maxwell House, Gap, Ovaltine), independent films, television (Law and Order, SVU, Sesame Street, Book of Daniel, Cold Case, Hope and Faith) as well as feature films (The Departed, Kettle of Fish, The Good Shepard). Many have signed with agencies in NYC and LA (Buchwald, KSA, Innovative Artists, Ford Modeling Agency.)
Seth Michael May began acting in 1989 and teaching in 1995. He worked as an assistant to casting director Maureen Fremont and as a teaching assistant to Alan Arkin. He has taught workshops in sensory work, improvisation and the classics in New York and in Europe. In Vienna one of the members of his class called his workshop: "Better then LSD." He has appeared in Law and Order, SVU, and in many other TV shows, films, and plays both here and in Europe. He has recently become the audition coach of choice for Titan Management, and Endeavor Agency. The actors he has coached, including Reiko Aylesworth and Charlie Hofheimer, have recently worked on TV (24, The Sopranos, As the World Turns, Law and Order, SVU, a David E. Kelly Pilot), films (The Village, Black Hawk Down, Factory Girl, Zombie Honeymoon) and have had success in theatre (Anna in the Tropics at Seattle Rep, final callback for the Broadway revival of Orphans with Al Pacino). He recently had clients audition for Nip/Tuck, Madmen, Sleeper Cell, Kite Runner, and a new Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez Film

SECOND ANNUAL CHARITY GAME at MADISON SQUARE GARDEN

New York, N.Y. (April 4, 2006) – It has been announced that on Sunday, July 23, 2006 the Entertainers Basketball Classic (EBC) will host its second annual tripleheader celebrity and all-star basketball extravaganza and mini-concert event at Madison Square Garden. This will be the second charity event that Gregory Marius, CEO of Entertainers Basketball Classic, has organized at the “World’s Most Famous Arena”.

The EBC, the famous basketball tournament that has operated out of Holcombe Rucker Memorial Park the last 25 years, in its 26th year of the most exciting basketball in New York City. Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett, Stephon Marbury, Baron Davis, Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter, Kenyon Martin and over 30 more of the Pro’s best have played in the tournament. Music superstars P. Diddy, Jay Z, Fat Joe, Irv Gotti, Jermaine Dupree and Alicia Keys have been involved with this league either as players or team owners. The tournament has also attracted fans from all over the world as well as celebrity figures such as Commissioner of the NBA, David Stern, former President Bill Clinton, President of NBA Entertainment, Adam Silver, Academy Award winner Denzel Washington and actor Mike Rappaport.

This years’ charitable recipient will be DKMS Americas Donor Center. DKMS Americas works to provide the best donor match for leukemia and blood disease patients using their database. Her films, THE UPRISING OF '34 (POV '95) (Co directed with George Stoney), BLUE VINYL (HBO 2002) (for which she and Co- Director Daniel Gold were nominated for two Emmy's), and its Peabody award winning "prequel" A HEALTHY BABY GIRL (POV '97) (a five-year "video-diary" about her experience with DES related cancer), explore home, class, corporate accountability, intergenerational relationships and the ever shrinking border between what is "personal" and what is a critical part of the public record.
Building on a decade of developing innovative outreach and organizing efforts around the distribution of her own films, Helfand co-founded Working Films in 1999, a national organization dedicated to leveraging the power and reach of documentaries to strategically support long-term social change. Opportunities to screen work are important to any filmmaker, especially women filmmakers.
To promote women working in film, CineWomen NY is partnered with The Pioneer Theater, a showplace of Independent Cinema. Our monthly screening series is held the fourth Tuesday of every month except for December and August. Our commitment is to provide a slate of films, by emerging artists at all levels, celebrating the work of women in film, video, and digital media. Acceptance criteria include women behind the scenes informing the project as crew and cast, whether as producers, directors, writers, editors, and/or cinematographers. Filmmakers are encouraged to be present at the screenings for a Q&A offering a lively interaction with the audience followed by a beer and pizza party held in the Two Boots Den Of Cin. A great way to carry on further conversations with the filmmakers, network and meet like- minded cinemaphiles.

Our NYte location space is at Women Make Movies located in SoHo, near several subway stops. Come join us, we look forward to seeing you!
We meet on the third Thursday of every month to network, crew up, share works-in-progress and bask in the ambience of like-minded individuals.
All members are invited to share their current works-in-progress on VHS, readings of their screenplay, a monologue or one-woman show, etc... The evening starts out with announcements about what's happening with the organization, then we have member introductions (first come, first speak). If we have time, our visitors and guests introduce themselves.
We conclude the evening with our shared works.
