Moderator: Kimberly Allers, ESSENCE Work & Wealth editor Kimberly is an award-winning journalist with over a decade of business journalism experience. Before joining ESSENCE, she worked as a staff writer at Fortune, a reporter on Wall Street and a columnist for the New York Post. She has also freelanced for Fortune, The Times (London), The Independent (London), New York Post, Daily News, Better Homes & Gardens Family Money, ESSENCE, Savoy and the BBC, among others. Kimberly has made regular appearances on television and radio, and was a Knight-Bagehot Fellow for Business and Economics Journalism at Columbia University from 1999-2000. She has also worked as an adjunct journalism professor at New York University, Long Island University and City College of New York. She has a B.A. in journalism and secondary English education from NYU, and a M.S. in journalism from Columbia.
Panelist: Sharon Epperson, Personal Finance Correspondent for CNBC A veteran broadcast and print journalist with more than 15 years experience with national media companies, Sharon has been a correspondent at CNBC since 1996 and appears throughout the network’s daytime programming. She can also be seen on NBC's Nightly News, Today, Early Today and on the MSNBC network and various NBC affiliates nationwide. Sharon is also a personal finance columnist for USA Weekend and TIME magazines. She covered business, culture, social issues and health at TIME from 1993 to 1996. During that time, she worked with Time Inc.'s television division, Time New Media, and was a contributor to The News Hour with Jim Lehrer and NY 1 News. She has also written for several newspapers, including The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and Boston Globe, as well as Self and ESSENCE magazines. Epperson is also an adjunct instructor of international affairs at the School of International Public Affairs at Columbia University.
Panelist: Marjorie Grace, Grace Financial Services, Oakland, CA Marjorie is an authority in the areas of financial planning and investments. Practicing for more than 23 years, and owning her own business for 17 of those years, Marjorie serves over 400 clients and manages millions of dollars in assets. Marjorie is an Investment Advisor Representative, and separately, a Registered Representative of Royal Alliance Associates, Inc., Member NASD/SIPC. She is also licensed in the areas of life; health and long term care insurances, and variable annuity contracts. Marjorie also received a Certificate of Recognition from the California State Senate’s Don Perata and a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Congresswoman Barbara Lee recognizing her work in the Financial Planning field. Through her experience and dedication, Ms. Grace has developed strategies for overcoming the two key obstacles that prevent most people from achieving their financial goals; procrastination and lack of knowledge for decision making. She has an ability to demystify financial terminology and simplify the complex concepts involved with financial planning and investments.
