Make it a double feature: See the screening on the 27th and the new Off-Broadway musical (based on the film) the next night, followed by a reception with the cast and creative team. The musical is penned by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife), composer Scott Frankel, lyricist Michael Korie, and directed by Michael Greif (Rent). The film, which has achieved iconic status in American popular culture, depicts East Hampton recluses "Little" Edie Bouvier Beale and her mother "Big" Edith, the first cousin and aunt of Jacqueline Kennedy. Set in the mansion's heyday, when the Beales were still rich and glamorous, the musical tells the fascinating backstory to the documentary, then jumps forward thirty years, to the world of the film. Broadway divas Christine Ebersole (42nd Street) and Mary Louise Wilson (Cabaret) head a stellar cast portraying Kennedys, Bouviers, Beales and the intriguing men in their lives.
