FILM IN THE CITY FRIENDS......
You are cordially invited to FITC's Showbiz Power Talks “ Indie to Hollywood:Playing the Game To Win” at The Pioneer Theater in New York, 155 East 3rd Street on Tuesday, April 11. The event will commence with a "Power Talk" panel discussion and Q&A followed by a networking reception.
Please join us and a select group of film executives in a thoughtful dialogue on how the members of the New York Independent film community are making "power moves" into Hollywood in 2006.
The most talked about film of 2005,"Brokeback Mountain" established itself as the picture to beat at the 78th annual Academy Awards, picking up a total of eight nominations including a win for Best Director for. Ang Lee. Lee's acclaimed cowboy romance was joined in the best film category by "Capote", "Crash", "Munich" and "Good Night, and Good Luck". This year independent films are leading the pack at the Oscars and more and more independent filmmakers are heading out and doing films 'their way". Film in the City will be hosting a special program on how independent filmmakers are making "power moves" into Hollywood.

MARGARET EMORY,Author, "Ask an Agent", Dulcina Eisen Associates
Margaret is a native New Yorker and has worked in entertainment management as a talent agent for the past 15 years. She is currently at Dulcina Eisen Associates.She founded the Emory Seminars, a program on the business of acting which she has taken to the North Carolina School of the Arts, the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) and the University of Michigan. Her book, entitled “Ask an Agent,” published by Back Stage Books, was released in October 2005 and is available in bookstores now.
JOHNNY SANCHEZ,Producer, 3Wolves Productions, "Find Me Guilty"
Johnny co-starred in ‘212’, which was an Official Selection of Sundance Film Festival 2005. He also co-starred in ‘Downtown: a street tale’ opposite John Savage and Genvieve Bujold, which premiered at the 2004 AFI Film Festival in Hollywood and which also played at the 2005 HBO’s Latino Film Festival in NYC. Johnny was a LAByrinth Theater Company member for twelve years (Artistic Directors: Philip Seymour Hoffman & John Ortiz). Recently Johnny ventured into writing and producing. His company 3Wolves Production produced 'Find Me Guilty' directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Vin Diesel, Linus Roache, Peter Dinklage, Annabella Sciorra, and Ron Silver.
JEFF RIEBE, Actor/Producer, "ActorFest NY"
New York and regionally, Riebe has appeared in lead and principal roles in The Normal Heart, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Peer Gynt, La Cage Aux Folles, The Country Wife, The Trial of the Catonsville Nine , The Sign of Four , among others. He has originated memorable roles in C'est La Vie (Lincoln Center), Chauncey's First Day of School (HERE), The Way-Weary (as T.E. Lawrence), Glimmer of Hope, The Jew of Bleecker Street, The Blue Angel among others. Film & TV: Coma, Ocean Waves, 140 Decibels , “All My Children,” and several student films. Riebe is also a voice-over artist.
MARK DOYLE, 7DazeMedia, Founder/Publisher "Guerrilla Filmmaker"
Mark is the co-founder of the multi-media production company 7DazeMedia and founder and publisher of GUERRILLA FILMMAKER, an independent film magazine devoted to grass roots cinema started in 1999 . Mr. Doyle was also the managing editor and co-creator of Film Festival Today, a magazine devoted to the film festival circuit. On the festival circuit, Mr. Doyle was a prominent staff member at the 1998 and 1999 editions of the Williamsburg-Brooklyn Film Festival and was the programmer for The 1999 Irish International Film Festival . Mr. Doyle was also an advisor on the Hamptons Summer Shorts Film Festival, Howl, The Lower East Side Film Festival and the first New York Horror Film Festival and served as executive co-director / programmer of the Annual VisionFest Film Festival. Mr. Doyle currently works at TECHNICOLOR NY in the Sales / Marketing department.
JASON LEAF, Co-President, Avatar Films
Jason Leaf acts as the theatrical booking agent and acquisitions executive primarily but also handles a number of other essential tasks at Avatar. In less than four years, Avatar Films has grown from a couple of people working out of an apartment and distributing obscure documentaries for foreign television sales, to releasing international award-winning foreign films in many of the most prestigious art-house theaters around the country. From "Nico & Dani" to "Kandahar" and "Divine Intervention", Avatar Films has accomplished a lot in a short amount of time.
DEREK NGUYEN, Screenwriter, "Monster"
Nguyen was a 2004 fellow at the Sundance Institute’s Screenwriters Lab (for the screenplay adaptation of Monster) and a 2004-2005 fellow in Playwriting/Screenwriting for the New York Foundation for the Arts. He is currently working on several screenplay projects including Hung, My Dead Wife (co-written with Johanna Lee) and Rubies (co-written with Liselle Mei).
