ABOUT CINEWOMEN NY SCREENS

Opportunities to screen work are important to any filmmaker, especially women filmmakers.

To promote women working in film, CineWomen NY is partnered with The Pioneer Theater, a showplace of Independent Cinema. Our monthly screening series is held the fourth Tuesday of every month except for December and August.

Our commitment is to provide a slate of films, by emerging artists at all levels, celebrating the work of women in film, video, and digital media. Acceptance criteria include women behind the scenes informing the project as crew and cast, whether as producers, directors, writers, editors, and/or cinematographers. Filmmakers are encouraged to be present at the screenings for a Q&A offering a lively interaction with the audience followed by a beer and pizza party held in the Two Boots Den Of Cin. A great way to carry on further conversations with the filmmakers, network and meet like minded cinemaphiles.

Subject: Cinewomen NY - Workshop March 30th

CineWomen NY presents:

Where's the Money? Fundraising from A to Z

So you have a terrific idea for a documentary, or a short film. Whether

it's a gut-wrenching social issue, a sweet personal story or a

straightforward biography - whatever the subject and budget, you need

the funds to get it made. A great idea isn't enough: you've got to find

funding partners and convince them your project is worth spending their

money on.

You can be a total fundraising novice or an experienced producer looking

making documentaries, shorts, or experimental work. (Narrative feature

filmmakers will want to look for workshops geared to film finance.)

You won't leave with funding in hand, but you will learn how to write a

proposal. You'll also be able to plan your next steps, and have plenty

of information about local resources you can access in a packet of

The Industry Cosign

NAMIC Conference

September 10-12, 2006
The Waldorf=Astoria, New York, NY

For 20 years, the Annual NAMIC Conference has led the communications industry in recognizing the impact of the multi-ethnic consumer and the connection between diversity and the bottom line.

This year, we invite you to participate and help shape our 20th Annual NAMIC Conference, September 10-12, 2006 in New York City.

Our overall theme is “Increasing Momentum, Mobility, and Marketshare” and will explore the bridge between multi-platform interactivity and increased personalization options. How are the current media trends aiding diverse consumers in getting the content they want? What are the synergies between platforms that allow programmers to have greater reach? Which companies are at the forefront of successfully adding to their bottom line via increasing their multi-ethnic viewership?

All this, and more, will be examined throughout sessions in the four following tracks:
Digital Media
Multi-ethnic Markets
Leadership Development
Corporate Diversity

We are looking for session proposals that are unique and innovative, with topics that are fresh in tone and presentation. Ideal speakers will be industry leaders that offer new perspectives on our business and the impact of diversity.

The sessions will be 75 minutes in duration and occur on Monday, September 11th and Tuesday, September 12th.

The session selections will be based upon the following criteria:
Providing tools for professional growth and skills that can be implemented in the workplace.
Ensuring that all sessions are consistent with the mission of NAMIC: To educate, advocate, and empower for multi-ethnic diversity in the communications industry.
Ensuring that sessions include diverse panelists that represent a cross-section of our industry as well as representation from subject matter experts outside the cable industry.
Relevancy for professionals at various experience levels.
Speakers and moderators must be experts in their field, preferably at the Vice President level, or higher, and preferably, have not presented at other cable industry events in 2006.

Please see the attached form for completion. Deadline for submission is March 24, 2006. If your session proposal is selected, you will be notified by April 7th, 2006.

For more information please visit www.namic.com/events/annualconference.aspx or contact Beatrice M. Robbio at (212) 594-5985 or beatrice.robbio@namic.com.

Natl' Action Network Convention

April 6-8, 2006 New York Sheraton Hotel & Towers
New York, NY - Mar 10, 2006 In his book, “Why We Can’t Wait”, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote, “eventually the civil rights movement will have contributed infinitely more to the nation than the eradication of racial injustice. It will have enlarged the concept of brotherhood to a vision of total interrelatedness.” Those of us who are committed to this concept have sustained Dr. King’s vision through our work on behalf of social and economic justice in the global community. The National Action Network (NAN), a nonprofit civil rights organization that was borne of the movement led by Dr. King during the tumultuous 1950s and 1960s in this country, has continued the tradition of nonviolent civil protest on behalf of disenfranchised citizens throughout this nation.
Each year, Reverend Sharpton's National Action Network hosts its national convention in New York City, bringing together delegates from over thirty NAN chapters across the country, national and local elected officials, and community leaders to discuss contemporary issues impacting people of color. The three-day convention features workshops and reports from our various departments including the Madison Avenue initiative, Truth Hamer voter registration initiative, Youth Development program and various issue oriented endeavors of the organization. We expect this year’s event to be as informative and motivating as past conventions with a focus on such areas as the future of the civil rights movement, the impact of the mid-term elections on the African-American community and our need for global health and economic initiatives. Confirmed guests, speakers, and honorees for the 2006 Convention include James Brown, Leslie Cagan, Shon Gables, Bruce Gordon, Earl "Butch" Graves Jr., Reverend Jesse Jackson, Senator John Kerry, Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, Errol Lewis, Marc Morial, Linda Johnson Rice, Eleanor Tatum, Brian Williams, Mort Zuckerman, and many others. For more information and to register for the convention, be sure to visit the National Action Network website.
